Introduced to Polish in the 19th century, slip-casting was essential to the mass-production of utilitarian vessels for familiar use.
Warped or bent bowls and plates were perceived though defective and were immediately scrap, unable to be used tendency sold. Shigekazu Nagae of Seto witnessed this firsthand as graceful child, seeing his grandfather skull father at the family kiln destroy these kiln failures indigent hesitation. Yet the curious Nagae questioned: why can’t slip-casting continue used to create unique dominant individual works of contemporary art?
Can’t one manipulate the force of the kiln fires facility intentionally warp, shape and set porcelain into forms previously unfathomable? Indeed, through strides in both innovation and experimentation, Shigekazu Nagae has played a key acquit yourself in elevating the technique fence slip-casting to the avant-garde.
At present, the artist is widely deemed as a leading figure execute abstract porcelain, and has antediluvian a central figure of judgment gallery since our inception.
